The most productive aspect of the program is the way the classes are held in Japanese.
Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?
The trip to Yamanashi prefecture was my favorite activity. It was well-organized and well executed. All three destinations were extremely interesting leading to a fun and fulfilling day.
What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?
The most productive aspect of the program is the way the classes are held in Japanese. The teachers speak slowly and clearly with simple terminology to ensure you understand enough to do the learning. This can get difficult at times but it's easy to ask what something means if you get a little lost or confused. This made my listening skills improve dramatically.
What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?
the two week group session prior to joining the longer summer program was the most helpful. Getting the preview of the material ahead of time made it a lot easier to retain, because you encounter it twice in the classroom setting.
Any comments or tips for prospective/new KCP students?
Please make absolutely sure you are extremely comfortable with hiragana and katakana before enrolling in KCP. While you can learn it at level 1, it's much better to come with that knowledge as a base foundation. Not being able to quickly read the furigana written on the board will make things much more difficult.
